Special Session

Noma, Florida

 

 

The Holmes County Board of Commissioners met in Special Session on the above date with the following members present: Commissioner Kenneth Williams, Commissioner Monty Merchant, Commissioner Jim King, Commissioner Phillip Music, Commissioner Raymon Thomas, Chairman of the Board.

 

                        Mr. Greg Wood, County Administrator, was present.                                                                Angie Jonas, Deputy Clerk, was present and kept the minutes.

                        Chairman Thomas opened the meeting with the prayer and pledge.

           

Pursuant to public notice, the Board held a workshop to discuss cost and energy savings.

           

            Chairman Thomas stated that suggestions would be welcomed; however, no questions would be accepted as this was an idea gathering session. He stated that at the conclusion of the cost and energy meeting series, that a list would be compiled with all of the suggestions for Board consideration.

 

            Chairman Thomas read previous suggestions, which were the following:

 

Four day work week for County offices           

                        Road Department consolidation- one or two locations

Fire Department Fuel purchases through the County

                        County collection of garbage

                        Alternative fuel sources

                        Selective road grading, as needed

                        Alternating schedule of road grading

                        Re-evaluation of fire assessment

                        Discontinuing dirt hauling

                        Capping number of dirt loads hauled

                        Charging for dirt hauling

                        Outside company to operate Jail

                        Road department redistricting

                        Application for grants for biodiesel project

                        FEMA property leasing

                        Sale of surplus County-owned properties

 

Suggestions offered to the Board were the following:

 

                        Turning County computers off at night

                        Turning off Courthouse lights when not in use (i.e. restrooms)

                        To set a 55 mph speed limit for all County vehicles

 

Commissioner Music made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner King seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
